Canker Sores?
Do you get them often? The kind that are on the inside of your cheek? Today I met a pediatrician who is doing research for congenital defects. Strangely enough, he told me something dental related that I didn't know about! Oh gosh!
If you suffer from canker sores, the cure is changing your toothpaste. If the toothpaste you use contains sodium lauryl sulfate, change it. Rembrant doesn't contain this ingredient. I'm so excited about this news! I don't know what cankers are like... but they look horrible!

Elizabeth Rosner
She's an author I met in Berkeley and she just might have gotten me to read some fiction. Crazy! She was really cool to talk to and I found out a couple of cool things she does. One, if you are into writing, she does day long writing workshops in Berkeley. Two, she knows Gillian Anderson, you know, Scully, from x-files! Her first book THE SPEED OF LIGHT is about the effects of the holocaust on the descendants of survivors; it is a story of loss and the redemptive power of storytelling and love. This likely isn't at all like what Dr. Vera wrote about her holocaust experience, but it intrigues me! Gillian Anderson has considered using this novel and making it into a film!

I welcome my new addition, Kam to the family of kitchen appliances! She arrived Otober 22, 2008, 5 qts, 3 attachments! Kam is my red kitchen aid mixer! Oh what a bundle of joy! However this cannot compare to the N family with their real baby girl! YAAY!

I made a friend's recipe with the new kitchen aid. It is Pumpkin Sourcream Bundt Cake!
It turned out almost perfect! Except for the little hole on the side (that i turned into a mouth), it was a delicious, perfect slightly crispy outside and very moist inside. There is a surprise strussel hidden in the middle! It was so delicious it was scary..... cause late at night...we kept picking at the lil monster.

Other random things:

Need a locksmith? availablelocksmithinc.com or... get a sphygmomonometer (blood pressure cuff) and wedge it between the door, then use whatever tool you want to pull the lock open.

Need something worthwhile to do? Salem Lutheran Home in Oakland is a great way to encourage some elderly. They are looking for volunteers to walk people outside, take them to sport events, plan parties, teach the Bible, pray, teach crafts...practically anything you like doing that someone elderly can do too! U______U Kam...is her name, as in Kitchen Aid Mixer! She's a red, 5 qt. beauty that will bring joy to us all through our tummies!

I'm looking for a place to donate blood and register for bone marrow. I think I finally weigh enough... and after talking to a patient who had lukemia and needed a donor... I was convinced that this is the least I could do. I kept telling her, what a blessing it was for her to be AB blood type and had the opportunity to receive blood from more people. She finally had a match, 10/10 and all she knows is that it was a boy in college who is B positive. That's awesome! Now her blood type is B positive.

So...I'm still looking for a place to register. Let me know if you find any. I keep missing them cause I'm at work Mon, Tues and Thurs.

Bonesetter's Daughter

Today a patient of mine, a man who is 70 was telling me his history. He was telling me how his great grandparents one from northern Ireland and one from Southern Ireland met on a boat America bound. He continued all the way to present day. It's amazing what people can share in a short 1 hour teeth cleaning appointment! This made me long to know more about my history and as far back as anyone in my family can remember.
Anyhow, this adorable grandpa figure also told me about the Bonesetter's Daugher. Which is an Amy T*n book about a woman who discovers horrible secrets of her immigrant mother's life. This book was made into an opera and world premiers this Saturday at the San Francisco Opera. It has about 7 showings. For more information about the Bonesetter's Daugher.

Dinner IN a Movie!!

Finally! That's what I'm talkin'about! Yes! Indeed! It is dinner in a movie theater! What a concept! Yes, I have snuck in dinner into a theater before, but here they sell pizza and there is a table for your food! Quite a wonderful concept! You buy your movie ticket, then order and buy your food, and like in Carl's Jr or Corner Bakery, you take your number to your seat and someone brings you your food! Awwwwsome!

Tonight I went to see Mama Mia with my name spelled with a "C". My roommie Cheryl!
We went to Cerrito Speakeasy Theater. It's a cozy, very east bay type of place, I'd say. Definitely fun, and on two for one Wednesdays, even if the movie wasn't the greatest thriller, it's money well spent! Who can beat 2 tickets for $7 evening showing ($5 matinee)! They don't allow food from outside the theater, but the menu is reasonable and you can order nachos, sandwiches, hummus, salads, beer and wine. I do believe it is NOT a kid friendly place and you must be over 18, and of course 21 to drink alcohol. Ahh, lovin' eastbay more and more! You guys around here are brilliant!

The Thais and I went to Circus Vargas today! The last time it is in Oakland is tomorrow. You can still see it! Go to circusvargas.org. Twas my first time to a circus! It is all that I expected! There were some modern twists to things, but for the most part, what I've seen on TV is just about what I saw live. It's kinda sad that since the 60's, we have moved on from circus' now. I guess it just got old. Anyways, I did still enjoy myself and it was worth doing at least that one time in my life. Definitely, it must be memorable event for the Thais. Afterall... I think we would agree, we had the most laughs when vinny to the area! Enjoy the clips. :D

Solano Stroll 2008

One of the streets I work on, Solano, has an annual festival and parade on Sunday September 14th from 10-6. The Solano Stroll started just about the time the dental practice I work for started. Waaaay back in the early 70's! The Solano Stroll features a parade, food from all over the world, live music, arts and crafts! Be warned, I heard that there are a LOT of people. It is the biggest event of its kind in the East Bay put on by Berkeley and Albany.

California Academy of Science

A definite must visit in 33 days opens the newly renovated California Academy of Science! Oh! Too many good things in one place :D There are penguins, a planetarium, there are plants growing on the roof, aquariums, rain forests, and corral reefs! Definitely worth planning a field trip there! Mm....all this science make me giddy! The new building is also commended for its many sustainable features! OPENS SEPTEMBER 25th!

Tide Pooling

As planned, I did get to go to Moss Beach to explore the tide pools! It was a misty foggy morning and the low tide was at 11am. Perfect day to hunt for hermit crabs, sea anemones, starfish, shrimp, fish and seals! Awwwsome! So...after observing a little boy pick up and play with the hermit crabs, I decide to pick one up too! It didn't do too much at first, but then it retreated into the shell and had one claw sticking out. I got nervous and dropped it back into the water. It sorta landed on another crab and then they started fighting. Thats what everyone was looking at in this picture. Hermit crabs have shell fight to find the perfect shell (according to wikipedia). Quite the fun time and really easy to get to.

Next Field Trip suggestion is Macondray Lane and Tartine Bakery in San Francisco! Macondray Lane or Russian Hills has been called a woody enclave between Levenworth and Taylor Street! Tartine is apparently a popular bakery. A patient of ours at the office I work at on Tuesdays works as a baker there and brought in some yummy coconut macaroons, and mexican wedding cookies for fun. Oh, was it fun for the tastebuds! I wanna go for the tarts!

I try my hardest to try something new every time I go to Trader Joe's. Sometimes I get lucky and get something pretty tasty....other times... it makes me want to quit Trader Joe's.
Haha, side note. While in an airport in Turkey, a man chats with us and wonders about American women. He asks, "Do you burp?" Puzzled...so we didn't really respond to his question. The Turkish man proceeds to tell us in English, "I quit my girlfriend 'cause she burps too much!!" Still puzzled.... us Americans were pretty amazed by his candid statement. Maybe some break ups are for not so complicated reasons that aren't truthfully told.
Anyhow, back to the blogging. Well, my new decision maker for trying something new at TJs will be based on other's ratings of TJs products found at Trader Joe's Fan! I suggest trying the Just Bananas and the frozen Chocolate Croissants! Yuuuuummm u______u

Dan, a random patient from the past, many moons ago went on his honeymoon in Tulum, Mexico. He ended up buying property there on his honeymoon and now had a hotel and spend most of the year on the beach wearing crocs! (That's how we started our conversation... when I asked how much he likes his crocs) They are beach bungalows!! BEACH BUNGALOWS! How awesome! My future plans.. What does it include? Welps, not thinking about kids right now, but who knows. What I am thinking, I'm thinking when I'm 34, I wanna be in Hawaii, Oregon, Missouri or Tennessee On August 21, 2017 to experience the sight of a Total Eclipse!! I was inspired by a patient who is going to Beijing this year to see the eclipse there. Fun fact: "`And on that day,' says the Lord God, `I will make the Sun go down at noon, and darken the Earth in broad daylight'." (Amos 8:9) "That day" was June 15, 763 B.C. The date of this eclipse is confirmed by an Assyrian historical record known as the Eponym Canon.

Honestly, I think it was "Heroes" that sparked the interest!

The same patient that is going to see the total eclipse in Beijing, we chatted also about Auoras or Northern Lights. Haha, I feel like such a nerd for looking this up. But yes, I wanna be in Alaska sometime in March to see these.

The missing Match

Back when I first started working as a RDH, one of the cooooolest guys I met was in a band. Unbeknown to me, he was really famous! I just thought..."Aww...that's cute...you're in band!" Well I went home to look him up, after the assistant told me that I should have gotten his autograph. He is in a band called the Match*s. Yes, that's correct, I cleaned the teeth of a rock star!! O MAN! Sad though, I just found out that he is leaving the Match*s to pursue other dreams. I like their music, check it out! :D

Patient #2 works at Pixar in software development! OOh, nerdy job with perks! She in fact shows up in the movie. So, in the scene where it shows all the past captains, she is the 2nd one, the only woman captain, who eventually is succeeded by this guy.
